  Complementary Therapies.

Our team of qualified therapists offer a range of holistic
therapies at our Quiet Days and on a stand-alone basis.

Registered service users may have up to 3 "stand-alone" therapies a year . (These will normally be at The Lodge, but home visits may be arranged in exceptional circumstances.)

Therapies are normally offered at The Lodge on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Please contact us for further information or to arrange an appointment.

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE - is especially good for relieving stress, tension, fatigue and headaches. The recipient sits in a chair, fully clothed. The therapist uses a range of kneading and compression movements, on the neck, shoulder and scalp areas and also gently stimulates and strokes pressure points on the face.  The experience is usually deeply calming and relaxing, leaving the recipient feeling energised, revitalised and better able to concentrate.
REIKI – is a system of natural healing.  The practitioner is a channel through which healing energy is drawn.  The recipient simply lies, fully clothed, on a couch and relaxes. (Treatment can also be given in a sitting position, if preferred.) The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body.  Reiki can help with healing at any level of being: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual, giving a sense of peace and acceptance.

COLOUR THERAPY -   We breathe colour every moment of the day, whether we're "feeling blue" or "seeing red". Because colour vibrates at particular frequencies, it can have a profoundly energising effect on our physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. To use colour in healing, we journey through the "chakras" (energy points in the body) to cleanse and re-balance our energy.  This therapy is a means of using the colours of nature for our own healing energies. It can change the way we see ourselves and the world around us.

AROMATHERAPY – uses essential oils extracted from a wide range of plant materials to benefit mind, body and spirit.  They are effective in relieving stress and tension, muscular aches and pains and aiding relaxation.
REFLEXOLOGY – is based on the principle that reflex areas on the feet correspond to organs and other areas in the body.  By applying pressure to these reflex areas, the body can be helped to achieve a sense of well-being.  It can be very effective in helping circulation and relaxation.
SHIATSU – The term Shiatsu literally means ‘finger pressure’.  Various parts of the giver’s body (fingers, thumbs, palms, forearms, even feet and  knees) are used to apply pressure to the receiver’s body at general areas or specific points.  These techniques are used in conjunction with stretches, joint rotations and joint manipulation to give an ‘all-over’ treatment.  Contacting the receiver’s Ki  (internal energy) is an integral part of the treatment.  Shiatsu is carried out fully clothed, usually with the receiver lying or sitting on a futon on the ground.  A typical treatment will last between 45 minutes and an hour, although shorter treatments can also be beneficial.
